Bioclinica Research (formerly Compass Research) has been conducting pharmaceutical research in The Villages since early 2000. They focus on helping conduct the clinical research necessary to bring pharmaceutical solutions to vexing problems that persist in our, ahem, "demographic". The Wellness Check is part of their community outreach. Drs. Johnny White and Jay Rubin will be on hand to answer any questions you might have, but this is an obligation free opportunity.
Bioclinica has recently reached out to our Club with an interest in developing a relationship with the cycling community. They have just come on board as a sponsor the Hearts for Our Hospital Bicycle Challenge / Big Bike Weekend. The Club looks forward to building on the relationship. Currently at their offices in The Villages Bioclinica has begun work on NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis or "fatty liver disease"). This has become a prevalent disease in the last few years and part of the issue is that those at risk, do not realize that they are at risk. Some of the common risk factors are: high cholesterol, high blood pressure, overweight, family history of diabetes, personal history of diabetes, underactive thyroid, sleep apnea, & heart disease! This is particularly difficult to identify since again most people do not know they are at risk. Also, Bioclinica is currently working on a pneumonia vaccine study. This particular trial does require a previous history of either one or both approved pneumonia vaccines currently on the market. What is interesting about this study is that it is actually covering a broader spectrum!
