Figbar Ride
This away ride has unique factors. First, everyone gets a fig bar (or maybe more) courtesy of Allan, the ride leader, and then smack in the middle of US301, next to the Santos Trail Head and behind the Marion County Sheriff's Station is Island Park with the historic remains of the Cross Florida Barge Canal. Our leader will be our docent as we walk the park and view its spectacular remains.
The ride leaves from the Mulberry Grove Recreation Center's parking lot and heads north along secondary, often shaded, roads to the Santos Trailhead in Belleview near US 301. At the trail head we will munch fig bars in a pavilion. and then tour by foot Island Park. The ride is 15 miles each way for a total of 30 miles and will be conducted at a 16/17 mph pace. Bathrooms and water are available at the Santos Trailhead. This not a trail ride and we DO NOT ride on the Santos Trail. This event is an on-the-road bike ride. There will be a maximum of 12 riders and advance registration is required.
SLBC member Allan Broadribb will be the event leader. docent and fig bar supplier while Dave and Cindy will assist.
